Light Weekend Reading: 4.12.13

Just a few things I came across that I had to share.

1.  Have you seen something online that you instantly feel in love with and want to know where to find it?  Read this to help you along your journey of tracking it down. (ApartmentTherapy.com)

2.  It's tax time.  Here's a good checklist to help you through it. (RealSimple.com)

3.  A good reminder that women in magazines don't really look like that in real life. (Metra-Jeanson.com)

4.  Some handy tips for in the kitchen. (MarthaStewart.com)

5.  Loving all these new skillet recipes I can't wait to try out. (Bhg.com)

6.  Ignore this crappy winter weather that wants to stick around by checking out the Spring looks from Ruche. (Ruche.com)

7.  This blazer with leather sleeves is amazing!  I also love this girls style.  Check it out. (StyleDiaryBlog.com)

8.  Would you ever brave going braless?  Maybe this will change your mind about strapping on the ol' over the shoulder, boulder holder.  Personally, I wouldn't leave the house without one :) (Huffingtonpost.ca)

9.  I'm dreaming of planting a large herb garden when the weather gets nicer.  These should fit in swimmingly. (Etsy.com)

Have fun this weekend!  I am going to reunite with some of the best friends a girl could have!  Let the girl talk begin :)

They're back...

Good Afternoon Everyone!
It has been a little while again since I have talked to you. I really need to get better at not making my posts so few and far between, don’t I? I’m working on it, I promise. : )
Now that the weather is getting warmer, there are a few things on my mind… Can you guess what they are? You’re right – shoes and shorts! I knew you would get it. : )
Shoes:
Please give a very warm welcome to J.Crew’s Coraline Patent Pumps!
There are many things I enjoy about these little beauties. First of all, I’d like to give a little shout out to d’orsay heels. Half pumps, half sandals, and so delicate put together, the style is probably my most favourite part of these shoes. Coming in a close second is the little tiny touch of neon yellow on the inside. As you know, bright colours are not often tenants in my closet (and by not often, I do mean never), but this yellow paired with my trusted friends navy and tan, stole my heart. It is just a small touch visible in the arch of the shoes when you are wearing them, but it is just enough to feel Springy and remember that Summer is just around the corner when you look down. : )
Shorts:
These are the Amber Shorts from Club Monaco:

Once the snow melted, I of course began thinking about shoes and shorts, and wondering what styles the stores were going to make this year. I came across the Coraline pumps pretty early and thought how perfect for my little column, but I couldn’t find any shorts that I liked, and that never happens. The stores must have heard my cries, because the flood gates opened and out came lots and lots of lovely shorts. It was a little tough to choose which ones to talk about first, but I quickly decided on the Amber Shorts because...
1.       They have a scalloped hem and I just love anything scalloped – well, except potatoes .  ; )
2.        They come in a pretty variety of colours, like black, white, pastels, and even polka dots.
3.       They come in chambray as well, which I also love.
The chambray pair is my favourite, but how could they not be? They are just so darn cute!
Have a wonderful day, may you have daydreams of your favourite Spring accessories as well! : )
Xs and Os. : )

Spring Trending: Cut Outs

Hello lovelies,

I'm back today with another one of my favourite Spring trends for 2013.  I love the simplicity and sexiness of showing a little bit of skin with a cut out.

1. Strap Detail Dress - ASOS
2. Printed Dress - Ruche
3. Open-back Dress - Forever 21
4. Aztec Print Dress - ASOS
5. Little Black Dress - ModCloth

I really love having a project on the go pretty much all the time.  If I'm feeling antsy or bored, I just pull something out from my craft pile and get to work.  Trying to incorporate your favourite seasonal trends doesn't mean you have to go out and buy a whole new wardrobe.  I love the idea of being able to take something from my closet I don't wear anymore and make it new again.

Here are here are great tutorials for getting the looks above.  It's a great way to try out a trend without breaking the bank.

So what's the verdict?  Are you loving or hating the cut-out trend?  Do tell.

Spring Trending: Florals

Hello lovelies,

Tomorrow is the first day of Spring and all the trends have been revealed.  I thought I'd compile a little list of the trends I want to try incorporating into my wardrobe, and hopefully convince some of you to try them too.

First up, FLORALS.  So this is a bit of a recurrent theme when it comes to Spring trends but that just means you shouldn't have to buy much if you jumped onto the trend last year, or the year before, or the year before that ;)

Here's just a few looks to get you started on mixing florals into your everyday wear.

1 - 2 - 3 - 4 - 5

There are a few recurring outfit ideas that these five lovely ladies are wearing.  Number one, wear a solid top with your floral bottoms and keep the shoes neutral.  Try to match your solid top with a colour in the print.  And if all else fails, throw on a blazer and get to workin' it.

I for one am very excited to dust off some of my florals out of the back of my closet.  It may still be frigidly cold outside, and there may be snow falling around me, but I will be cheery and bright in some floral attire.

What do you think of the floral trend?  Do you have florals in your closet that you're just dying to pull out?
